1654 - Systems Engineer

Assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) to develop and support the Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS) Cyber Engineering Test Group, a virtual test bed for training and combat system testing to support the development of documentation to include TTPS and SOPS for ships force use.


  • Design and develop virtual machine architecture to replicate a subset of the SSDS network (sufficient to represent the network security posture). VMS would include OE and related packages (RHEL, Java, Mozilla, etc.) but may not include tactical software other than specific cybersecurity tools used within the SSDS Cs (e.g., Splunk, ACAS, SCAP, Tenable CASA, CSTK, etc.).
  • Assemble/build/maintain the government designed rack equipment.
  • Build multi-server system for TI-12/h, TI-16+/ACB 20 capabilities.
  • Provide systems engineering, hardware / software, integration documentation packages appropriate to the scope of this project.
  • Develop a process to distribute anti-virus signatures to the fleet and an anti-virus workstation [designed by gov’t] to test the AV signatures.
  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

  • Working knowledge of virtualization (e.g., VMware)
  • Working knowledge of networking (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, Switching/Routing product lines)
  • Working knowledge of anti-virus programs and virus signatures


  • Develop and update TTP Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Provide a Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS) systems engineering subject matter expert (SME) to support an analysis of alternatives (AOA) for potential cross domain solutions (CDS) onboard SSDS platforms.
  • Support working groups and meetings in order to provide system hardware design assessments and support the tracking and closure of action and scheduling items.
